Poltergeist activity scaling up - knocking has become throwing, need advice urgently

This is going to sound absolutely bonkers but I'm genuinely concerned and don't know what to do, so I'm hoping someone here has experience with this specific type of escalation.

We've been experiencing poltergeist activity in our semi-detached in Nottingham for about four months now. It started small - knocking sounds, things moving slightly, standard creepy stuff. My wife wanted to ignore it, I wanted to investigate. Over the past month though, it's gotten considerably more aggressive. Objects are now being thrown - my alarm clock was hurled across the bedroom last week, pictures have come off walls, yesterday a mug flew across the kitchen and smashed.

I've done some research and this progression (from auditory phenomena to physical object displacement) is supposedly a sign that poltergeist activity is escalating. I'm worried about someone actually getting hurt. We have a six-year-old daughter. The activity seems to centre on the hallway and her bedroom, which terrifies me.

Has anyone dealt with this level of escalation? Professional exorcist? Paranormal investigators? I need proper advice, not dismissal.

Right, first thing - the fact this is centring on your daughter's bedroom is significant and worth paying attention to. There's genuine research (I know it sounds odd) suggesting poltergeist phenomena often correlate with adolescent or pre-adolescent energy disruption - puberty, emotional disturbance, that sort of thing. Not saying your daughter is possessed, but energy manifestation around young people is documented across multiple paranormal investigation groups.

Before you call anyone paranormal, please get a surveyor and an electrician in. Seriously. Vibrations from underground water pipes, subsonic frequencies from building settlement, faulty electrical wiring - these can all cause the exact symptoms you're describing. Objects moving because of vibrations, knocking sounds, electrical interference. It would be irresponsible not to rule out the mundane explanations first, especially with a child involved.

Yeah, that's been documented. If you're serious about investigating this, I'd recommend contacting someone like the Society for Psychical Research - they actually do proper investigations rather than exorcism stuff. They'll examine your home, rule out engineering issues, and if there's genuinely something unusual, they'll document it properly.

Don't go the exorcist route immediately. Most exorcists are well-meaning but not scientifically rigorous, and honestly some are just taking your money. Get professional paranormal investigators in first - proper ones, not ghost hunters from reality TV. They'll have equipment to measure electromagnetic fields, temperature variations, all the data collection that might actually point to a cause. The SPR or similar organisations would be my recommendation.

Also important: keep a detailed log of when incidents occur, what's thrown, what triggers them if anything seems to. Dates, times, weather, what family members were doing, everything. This data is actually really useful for investigators because patterns often emerge - specific times of day, specific triggers, etc. If you're going to involve anyone professional, that log will be invaluable.

The fact your daughter's bedroom is the centre point is honestly the first thing I'd investigate. Not from a supernatural angle necessarily, but from an environmental one. Could be something in her room creating physical vibrations or stress responses - certain frequencies can cause actual physical movement and also psychological effects. Get someone to test the electrics in her room specifically.
