Pendle Hill - genuine hotspot or just good marketing?

Right, I'm planning a trip up to Lancashire next month and obviously Pendle Hill is on the list. But I'm genuinely curious whether it's actually haunted or if we're all just going there because of the witch trials narrative, you know? The gift shop certainly thinks it's haunted.

I've read about the apparitions, heard the stories about the "white ladies," but has anyone actually had something happen to them up there? Or are we all just getting spooked by wind and shadows because we've already decided it's spooky before we arrive?

Would appreciate honest accounts rather than "I felt a cold spot" type stuff. Cheers.

I went there in 2019 with my mate Derek and honestly... nothing. We walked around for three hours, tried to use his EMF meter (which he'd bought off eBay for £12.99), and the most paranormal thing that happened was a sheep startled us. Derek swears blind the meter was going mental, but it was probably just interference from the phone masts nearby.

THIS. This is the whole problem with paranormal tourism in Britain. We've got genuine tragic history and we've turned it into a theme park. The real haunting is what those poor souls experienced in 1612, not some ghostly impression. Respectfully disagree with treating it like a day out.

My grandmother lived near Pendle and used to say the locals never went up there after dark, said the atmosphere was "wrong." Not saying she's proof of anything, but generational knowledge counts for something? I felt genuinely unsettled when I visited, but I accept that could be psychological.

The white ladies are documented in like... what, three sources? One of which was a Victorian ghost story writer with a reputation for making stuff up. Classic case of folklore becoming "fact" because it sounds good. You'll probably have a lovely walk and see some nice views. That's the real reason to go.
