Right, so I'm planning a bit of a winter solstice jaunt up Pendle Hill in Lancashire next month and I'm wondering if anyone's got experience visiting the place during the darker months. I know it's got absolutely mental history with the witch trials and all that, but I'm curious whether the paranormal activity ramps up when the days are shortest.

I've heard from a mate who works at a local pub that there's something about the solstice energies supposedly amplifying things up there. Could be complete nonsense, but figured I'd ask the community before I trek up there with my thermal camera and nearly freeze to death.

Has anyone experienced anything odd during winter visits? Unusual cold spots, shadow figures, that sort of thing? Any tips on what to bring besides common sense and a flask of tea?

Pendle's brilliant any time of year but honestly the winter solstice up there is absolutely freezing and visibility is rubbish after about 3pm. I went up there in December 2019 and nearly got lost trying to get back down. Didn't see anything paranormal but I did see my breath in about fifteen different ways.

Mate, everything sounds more mysterious when a pub mate says it. That's just the cider talking. That said, Pendle does have genuinely creepy vibes. The witch trial deaths were absolutely horrific and tragic. Whether that translates to actual hauntings is another question entirely.

I did a winter solstice vigil up there in 2021 with a small group and honestly? The darkness, the wind, the isolation... your mind plays tricks on you. We heard what sounded like voices but it was just the wind through the stone walls. Got some decent photos though, even if they're just fog and shadows.

Bring a proper torch, not just your mobile torch. The battery dies from the cold anyway. Also maybe don't go alone? It gets properly dark up there and the paths are treacherous. Last thing you want is a twisted ankle at midnight with no signal.
