Pendle Hill at Halloween - worth investigating or dangerous?

Pendle Hill in Lancashire is historically absolutely rammed with paranormal activity. Witches, violent deaths, dark folklore - it's got everything. I'm thinking about doing a Halloween investigation (October 31st) up there because it's peak season for supernatural activity and the local folklore suggests entities are particularly active around that date.

But I'm slightly nervous because unlike somewhere like Borley Rectory which is on relatively safe ground, Pendle Hill is exposed moorland at the end of October. Weather gets vicious, visibility is poor, it's easy to get lost. Has anyone done paranormal investigations on Pendle Hill? Is it actually worth the effort and risk, or am I better off sticking to more accessible haunted buildings?

Also - and I'm asking this seriously - has anyone experienced genuine malevolent activity up there? The witchcraft history makes me slightly worried about attracting the wrong kind of attention.

Pendle Hill is brilliant but you absolutely need proper kit and experience. Invest in proper hiking boots (at least £80-100 for something decent), thermal layers, a good torch, and GPS. The hill itself isn't massive but getting lost on moorland in the dark is genuinely dangerous. I'd recommend going during daylight first to scout the route.

The witch trial history is real and there is definitely heavy energy on that hill, but 'malevolent activity' is probably overstated. You're more likely to encounter residual haunting than intelligent spirits trying to harm you. That said, the energy is dense - bring proper protection and grounding techniques.

I did a Halloween investigation up there about five years ago with a small group. Got some genuinely good EVP recordings, especially around the summit stone. The atmosphere was heavy but not hostile. Weather was brutal though - we abandoned after about 90 minutes because visibility got down to about 10 metres and the wind was dangerous.

Honestly for paranormal investigation purposes, you'd probably get better results somewhere less physically demanding. The extreme weather and challenging terrain means your equipment might fail and you're physically exhausted, which both interfere with paranormal research. Maybe try Hoagy's Wood or a local haunted building instead?

I'd avoid going around Halloween specifically because it gets rammed with tourists, drunks, and curiosity seekers. Too much chaotic energy. Go mid-October or early November when it's quieter but still in the autumn window. You'll get better readings and fewer interruptions.

The witches executed at Pendle weren't actually executed on the hill itself - they were hanged in Lancaster. So while the trial history is significant, the actual deaths didn't happen there. That might mean the energy is less intense than the folklore suggests. Still worth investigating but maybe less 'malevolent activity' and more 'residual historical imprinting'.
