After two years of moderating this forum, we've finally updated how we handle sighting reports. There's been increasing concern about unverified claims, hoaxes, and posts that lack any real detail. We want Quirk Reports to maintain credibility without becoming a censorship bureau.
New process starting immediately:
All sighting reports will now be tagged with one of four status labels: Verified (confirmed by multiple independent witnesses), Credible (single witness with detailed account), Unconfirmed (basic details, single witness), or Disputed (claims contradicted by evidence). This isn't about being mean to people - it's about helping readers understand the reliability of information.
We're also asking posters to include: date, time, location, weather conditions, duration, number of witnesses, and what was actually observed (not interpretation). "Saw a ghost" is less useful than "Saw a translucent figure in Victorian dress, approximately 5'8", standing for 20 seconds before fading, witnessed by myself and my partner."
This isn't about belief or skepticism - it's about data quality. Questions? Reply here. Complaints? Use the new Report a Post feature. We'll be publishing detailed guidelines next week.
