After two years of moderating this forum, we've finally updated how we handle sighting reports. There's been increasing concern about unverified claims, hoaxes, and posts that lack any real detail. We want Quirk Reports to maintain credibility without becoming a censorship bureau.

New process starting immediately:

All sighting reports will now be tagged with one of four status labels: Verified (confirmed by multiple independent witnesses), Credible (single witness with detailed account), Unconfirmed (basic details, single witness), or Disputed (claims contradicted by evidence). This isn't about being mean to people - it's about helping readers understand the reliability of information.

We're also asking posters to include: date, time, location, weather conditions, duration, number of witnesses, and what was actually observed (not interpretation). "Saw a ghost" is less useful than "Saw a translucent figure in Victorian dress, approximately 5'8", standing for 20 seconds before fading, witnessed by myself and my partner."

This isn't about belief or skepticism - it's about data quality. Questions? Reply here. Complaints? Use the new Report a Post feature. We'll be publishing detailed guidelines next week.

About time. Half the posts in Sightings are just "weird thing happened, no details, believe me." This should help separate the serious investigators from the karma farmers. Good call.

Bit worried this will discourage people from posting? Some genuine experiences are hazy on details, especially if they happened years ago. Don't want to create an atmosphere where people feel they have to embellish to meet your standards.

This is how proper forums operate. Reddit's paranormal communities suffer because everything's treated equally. Skeptical about whether it'll change much but I support the effort. Make the guidelines clear though - don't want confusion about what goes in which category.

Credible (single witness with detailed account)
How detailed is detailed? What's the threshold? This could become quite subjective. Suggest making a template for posts so everyone's on the same page about what information matters.

Finally some standards. Not sure why this took two years. Looking forward to the guidelines - assuming they're evidence-based rather than "must agree with our beliefs" nonsense.
