Hello everyone! I'm Emma, 31, from Kent. Bit nervous about joining but I've been lurking for ages and finally thought I'd introduce myself properly.

My main interest in all this comes from my family history, actually. My grandmother used to talk about experiences she had growing up in rural Wales - things that didn't fit into normal explanations. For years I thought she was just being superstitious or exaggerating, but after my mum mentioned some similar incidents from her own childhood, I started wondering if there's something more to it. Thought joining a community of actual researchers rather than just believing YouTube randos might help me get some perspective.

I'm not really a skeptic but I'm not a true believer either - somewhere in the middle I suppose! Looking forward to chatting with you all.

Welcome Emma! Always lovely to see someone with a family history angle - generational patterns are genuinely interesting from a research perspective. Welsh paranormal phenomena is actually quite well-documented if you fancy going down that rabbit hole. Which areas was your family from? There might be local historical societies worth contacting.

Hi Emma! Great to have you aboard. Quick heads up - the paranormal community has its share of absolute fruit loops, but generally speaking this place is pretty level-headed. People here tend to ask good questions and push back on bad evidence, which is helpful for staying grounded. Don't be put off by the occasional heated debate about Borley Rectory 😂

Absolutely welcome here! Your balanced approach is refreshing. Lots of us have similar family stories - they're often the hook that gets people into this stuff. I'd genuinely recommend starting by documenting what your mum and gran experienced in as much detail as possible while they're still around. Dates, locations, witnesses - that sort of thing. Pure gold for research.

Welcome! Just a tip - there's a sub-forum specifically for family stories and generational experiences. Might be worth cross-posting there once you've introduced yourself. Also, if you do pursue the Welsh connection, we have quite a few Welsh members who know the folklore scene well.
