I'll keep this brief because I'm still processing. My name's Marcus, I'm 47, live near Manchester, and until about six weeks ago I would've absolutely slagged off anyone who believed in ghosts, UFOs, or anything paranormal. I'm a structural engineer, very analytical, very evidence-based.

Something happened in my daughter's bedroom that I cannot explain through conventional physics or psychology, and it's made me question everything. I've been reading Quirk Reports obsessively and I think I need to talk to people who might actually take me seriously without trying to convince me I'm either lying or mentally unwell.

I'm not looking for validation - I'm actually looking for rational explanations. But I've run out of them. So here I am, joining a paranormal forum like some sort of deranged conspiracy theorist. My wife finds it hilarious.

Welcome Marcus. We get a lot of people like you - the engineers, the scientists, the "I need evidence" types. Honestly, that's what makes this community brilliant. You're not going to get much nonsense here because most of us are desperate for actual logical explanations. Please do share your story when you're ready. No judgment.

The fact that you can't explain it is actually quite refreshing. Too many people come here already convinced it's paranormal before they've even checked the simple stuff. What specifically happened in your daughter's room?

This sentence is why you're in the right place. Most of us aren't here because we're credulous - we're here because something happened that genuine, sober, careful observation couldn't resolve. Your engineering background will actually be useful in this community.

Your wife's spot on that it's hilarious, but also - good luck explaining this to anyone not involved in paranormal communities. You're making the right choice coming here first. Post the full story whenever you're comfortable. Welcome aboard.
