Right, important PSA for the community here. We've had an increase in journalists and documentary teams contacting members through the forum, and I want to make sure everyone's aware of a few things before they agree to be interviewed.
Check their credentials properly. Ask who they work for, get verifiable contact information, and don't assume a BBC or Channel 4 email is genuine without calling the main switchboard. We've had at least two fake documentary teams pretend to be from major broadcasters to try and get 'juicy' paranormal claims.
Be prepared for your words to be edited. I don't care if you have the best ghost story ever - journalists will use selective editing to make you sound unhinged if it serves their narrative. Know that going in. Consider asking for editorial approval, though they'll often refuse. Have a mate with you during interviews if possible.
Finally, don't feel obligated to participate just because someone asks. Remember that piece in The Times last month that basically ridiculed our entire community? Yeah, that started with members genuinely trying to share legitimate experiences. The media largely isn't here to help us - they're here for clicks and mockery.
Be careful out there, and feel free to ask the moderation team if you're unsure about a journalist's legitimacy before agreeing to anything.
