Mandela effect or glitch? Cornish place names changing

This is going to be a weird one but bear with me. I grew up in Cornwall and visited regularly until about five years ago. I've just moved back after a long time away and I'm noticing that several place names I'm absolutely certain about have changed.

Specifically: There's a village I'm certain was called Penrose. I've looked it up and there's a Penrose House but no village by that name. My old maps from the 1990s show Penrose village clearly marked. My mum has the same memory but Google has zero record of it ever existing.

Other examples: A pub I went to regularly called The Copper Kettle is now The Copper Kettering. A road sign I remember reading as Cadwallader Lane is now Cadwalader Lane (missing an 'l').

Am I going mad or is this a genuine Mandela effect/simulation glitch? Has anyone else experienced reality seeming to edit itself after you've been away from a location?

This is genuinely creepy if true. Cornish place names are notoriously variable in historical records - Cornish language influence and spelling inconsistencies. But if you have physical documents showing different names, that's evidence of actual alteration, not just memory error.

Could be worth contacting the Cornish Studies Library or local historical societies. If there are actual documents showing name changes, they'd have records. Don't want to be dismissive but place names do legitimately change - villages consolidate, get renamed for administrative reasons. Check historical records before assuming simulation glitch.

I had something similar happen with a supermarket near me. Absolutely convinced it was called Tesco but now it's Sainsbury's and has always been Sainsbury's according to everyone. I found an old receipt from the Tesco in my drawer though. So either my receipt is fake or something actually changed.

Could be false memory combined with aging memory. We're all prone to misremembering place names, especially over years. But the physical documents are the key question here - can you verify those 1990s maps still say what you remember?
