Local newspaper reported my sighting but got almost every detail wrong

Right, so I submitted a report of a sighting I had near Whitby on the North Yorkshire coast about three weeks ago. Thought it was interesting enough to share, nothing too dramatic. A bright object moving at unusual angles, hovered for about forty minutes, then shot off vertically at speed. Classic UAP sighting, I suppose.

The local paper (Whitby Gazette) got in touch asking for details. I gave them everything: exact time (23:47), location (just south of Sandsend beach), weather conditions (clear sky, light wind), phone number of the mate who witnessed it with me.

Their article came out yesterday. They've changed the time to "late evening." They've moved the location to "near Whitby" (helpfully vague). They didn't mention the second witness. And they quoted me saying the object was "probably a helicopter" when I specifically said I didn't think it was.

Not happy. How is this different from the BBC situation above? Why can't local media get basics right?

Because they don't care about accuracy - they care about a good story. And "local man sees something he can't identify" is less interesting than "local man nearly hit by mystery object" or whatever spin they put on it. Infuriating but not surprising.

Have you got the article? Could probably put together a proper detailed post here with the actual information. More people will read an accurate account on Quirk Reports than in the Whitby Gazette anyway.

That's a straight-up misquote. Worth sending them a correction letter and asking them to print it. Legally they've got obligations around accuracy.

This is why I always tell people: don't trust local press to represent paranormal sightings fairly. They're understaffed, they're not interested in the subject, and they'll twist your words to fit whatever narrative sells papers. Post here instead. We'll take you seriously.

Sorry mate, that's rough. Was it a decent sighting though? Would love to hear the full details without the Gazette's editorial spin.
