Essex Live ran a piece yesterday about Borley Rectory (or the ruins, rather) on the anniversary of some of the major incidents. And of course, they trotted out the same tired debunking claims: "researcher bias," "too convenient," "probably the vicar's housemaid making it up for attention." You know the usual.

What they didn't mention: the independent witnesses from outside the church. The documented poltergeist activity spanning decades. The fact that multiple paranormal investigators - not just Harry Price - reported consistent phenomena.

Just wish they'd either do proper research or not bother covering it at all. Half-measures and institutional skepticism aren't journalism, they're just agenda-setting.

Anyone been to the site recently? Worth a visit?

Went last summer. The ruins are honestly atmospheric as anything, and the energy there is proper palpable. Whether that's because it's genuinely haunted or because you're standing in a place with such a heavy history, I couldn't say. Either way, worth the trip if you're in Essex.

Fair points though, aren't they? Harry Price has been accused of planting evidence himself. Borley's one of the most disputed cases in paranormal history precisely because the evidence is so contaminated. That's not bias, that's honest assessment.

Essex Live wouldn't know a proper investigation if it bit them on the arse. Local press is absolutely useless for this stuff. Stick to specialist forums and actual researchers. The mainstream will always be useless.

The "housemaid did it" theory is centuries old and frankly sexist. But you're right that the coverage is lazy. They could at least engage with the actual evidence before dismissing it wholesale.
