Hello all, I'm James, 42, from Manchester. Fair warning - I'm probably coming at this from a different angle than most of you.

I've spent the last fifteen years as a proper skeptic, the 'it's all psychology and misidentification' type. But something happened about six months ago that I can't explain with conventional reasoning, and it's been bothering me ever since. Rather than just dismiss it or drive myself mad trying to rationalize it, I thought I'd join a community where I can explore this properly without feeling like I'm going mad.

I'm not looking to become a true believer overnight or anything. I just want to understand the field better, learn about the research being done, and hopefully figure out what actually happened to me. Thanks for having me.

Welcome James! Your approach is honestly refreshing - we get a lot of true believers but actual skeptics asking genuine questions are brilliant for keeping the conversation grounded. You'll find a good mix of perspectives here. Feel free to post your experience whenever you're ready, but no pressure. People are generally respectful about these things.

Skepticism isn't a bad starting point - most serious researchers are skeptics first, they just follow the evidence. The field benefits from people asking hard questions. Stick around and explore the forums, you'll probably find some genuinely interesting research being done that you can evaluate on your own terms.

This is the common path into the paranormal community - usually something personal breaks the initial skepticism. No judgment either way. When you're comfortable sharing details, people here are generally good at helping you work through possibilities systematically rather than jumping to supernatural conclusions.

Good on you for being open-minded enough to reconsider. My suggestion would be to read through some of the debunking threads alongside the positive reports - seeing both sides helps you calibrate your thinking. Also check out the Critical Analysis forum if there is one - we need more people asking proper questions.
