Not sure how I'll be received here given that I'm fairly skeptical about most paranormal claims, but I've been reading through some of the case studies on Quirk Reports and I'm genuinely intrigued rather than dismissive. I work as a psychologist (private practice, nothing fancy) and I'm interested in the psychological aspects of reported paranormal experiences.

I'm not here to debunk anyone or be argumentative - I accept there's a lot we don't understand about human perception and cognition. But I'd like to explore whether some of these experiences might have explanations rooted in psychology, neurology, or environmental factors without that being seen as dismissing the experiencers' genuine distress.

Anyway, hi. I'm Tom, I'm from near Edinburgh, and I promise I'm not just here to wind people up!

Always good to have thoughtful skeptics in the community. Too many forums get echo chambers where everyone agrees all the time. Your psychological background could be genuinely valuable for unpacking some of these experiences.

Welcome Tom. Just be prepared for some people to be defensive about their experiences. When you're suggesting psychological explanations, some folks hear 'you're imagining this' even if that's not what you mean. Tread carefully but definitely stick around - different perspectives keep us honest.

A psychologist genuinely interested in understanding rather than debunking is exactly what this community needs. There's brilliant work being done on the intersection of psychology and anomalous experiences - look up the work on sleep paralysis and temporal lobe stimulation, that's the kind of rigorous thinking we need more of.

We've had skeptics here before and some became believers once they engaged with the material properly. Others stayed skeptical but more informed. Both are valid. Hope you find the evidence compelling or at least thought-provoking.
