Hi everyone! Long-time lurker, finally signing up - got a story I need to share

Been reading Quirk Reports for about two years now and finally decided to make an account because I've got something I need to talk about that's been bothering me, and I figure this is the right place.

I'm 34, living in Nottinghamshire, work in IT (so definitely a skeptic by nature, but I'm open-minded). Back in September - 3rd of September, specifically - I had an experience I can't properly explain. I was driving home from work around 11pm, on the A1, decent weather, clear night. I saw something in the sky that didn't match any aircraft or satellite I could identify.

It was a stationary light that changed colour (white to amber to kind of greenish) over about thirty seconds, then just vanished. Not flew away - just switched off like someone flipped a switch. I tried to take a photo but by the time my mobile was out it was gone. I'm not claiming it was aliens or anything wild, but I can't explain what it was.

I talked to my wife about it and she basically told me to stop being weird about it. So I'm curious if anyone else has had similar sightings? Also wondering if there's a good way to report these things officially without sounding like a nutter.

Welcome! Good to have another Nottinghamshire person on here. The A1 corridor actually has quite a history of UAP sightings - there's something about that route. The colour-changing thing you describe is consistent with several documented reports from around that time.

For official reporting, the MoD technically takes reports but they won't do much with them. The civilian option is to submit to NUFORC (National UFO Reporting Center) online, though that's US-based. For UK stuff, local paranormal investigation groups sometimes keep records. What bit of Nottinghamshire are you in? Might be a local group worth contacting.

The A1 sighting is interesting. Could it have been a helicopter? They sometimes have coloured lights and can hover. Though the instant disappearance is odd for that hypothesis.

Great first post! Don't worry about sounding like a nutter - everyone here has questioned what they've seen at some point. The fact that you can pinpoint the exact date and location is actually helpful. Have you noticed anything since then? Sometimes after a sighting, you get more sensitive to anomalies.

Welcome aboard! You'll fit right in here. Sounds like you had a genuine encounter. The colour-changing is really interesting - that's thermodynamic signature, possibly. Something moving through different atmospheric layers or managing its energy output. Keep your eyes open on that route and let us know if you see anything else.
