Hello folks, I'm Mark and I suppose I should be transparent upfront: I'm a skeptic by nature. I'm a data analyst by profession, so I'm trained to question extraordinary claims and demand proper evidence. That said, I've been reading this forum for about a week and I'm genuinely intrigued by the level of documentation some of you do.

I'm not here to be combative or dismissive of people's experiences - I actually think the community here takes things seriously rather than just believing everything blindly. What I'm interested in is the methodology. How do you actually distinguish between genuine paranormal phenomena and statistical coincidence or misinterpretation?

I've got experience with data collection and analysis, so if the community's interested in having a skeptic poke around and ask difficult questions, I'm happy to contribute from that angle. And I'm genuinely open to being wrong - I just need to see the evidence. Looking forward to engaging thoughtfully with you all.

Welcome aboard Mark! We actually love having skeptics in the community - the best paranormal research happens when belief and skepticism are balanced. There's a whole forum section dedicated to 'Rational Explanations' where we actively work through alternative hypotheses for reported phenomena. Your data analysis background would be genuinely valuable. We need more rigour in this field.

Fair warning: you'll find some true believers here who don't appreciate questioning, but most of us respect healthy skepticism. The key question we're always trying to answer is: what does 'genuine' evidence even look like? That's where your expertise could actually help. Looking forward to your perspective.

Brilliant that you're being upfront about your skepticism. The paranormal field attracts too much magical thinking and not enough rigor. If you're willing to examine evidence fairly without predetermined conclusions, you'll find genuine anomalies that actually warrant investigation. Some of the best paranormal researchers I know have fundamentally skeptical minds - they just follow data rather than faith.

Honestly the methodology question is the most important one in paranormal research and most investigators avoid it. Happy to have someone willing to engage with it seriously. Check out the 'Methodology & Debate' section - there are some proper discussions happening there about standards of evidence. You'll probably have a lot of thoughts on those threads.
