Right, hello everyone. Just signed up and looking forward to joining the community here. I'm from West Yorkshire, spent the last few years exploring the moors near Ilkley and Addingham, and I've had enough odd experiences to convince me there's definitely something worth investigating out there.

I'm not sure if I'd call myself a 'believer' exactly - I'm more skeptical-but-curious. I want proper explanations for things I've seen, which might mean they turn out to be completely mundane, and that's fine. But I'd rather discuss it with people who take it seriously than roll my eyes at.

My background: I work in IT, so I'm comfortable with technology and equipment setup. I've got basic knowledge of the paranormal scene from reading forums and watching documentaries (yes, I know, grain of salt etc). I'm planning to do more serious investigations as the dark nights come in.

Any other Yorkshire-based members? Or anyone with experience investigating the moors? Would be great to get advice on where to start and what kit I actually need versus what's just marketing nonsense.

Welcome aboard! Yorkshire's brilliant for investigation - loads of folklore and genuine weird reports. The moors are particular hotspots. You'll find loads of experienced people here who can point you toward proper kit and good investigation locations. Don't worry about the skeptical thing - healthy skepticism is what keeps the research honest.

IT background is actually perfect for this - loads of the serious investigators use custom equipment now rather than off-the-shelf stuff. There's a whole section on DIY equipment building you should check out. Welcome to the community!

Ilkley Moor's absolutely fascinating. There's some proper folklore there alongside more recent sightings. You'll find good advice in the 'Sightings & Reports' and 'Equipment Guides' sections especially. Stick around, ask questions, and enjoy the rabbit hole. It gets deep but in a good way.

Another Yorkshire member here (Sheffield area). Always good to have more local people. The moors are genuinely worth investigating - far more activity reported there than most places. Definitely join in the equipment threads and feel free to ask daft questions. Everyone here started somewhere.
