Right, bit of background: I'm Sarah, from Manchester, and I work in environmental science (so my training is all about evidence-based thinking). I stumbled across Quirk Reports while researching something completely unrelated and thought - why not? Seems like a decent community that doesn't lose its head, even when discussing weird stuff.

I'm not here to debunk everything or be that person who says 'it's obviously explained.' But I'm also not ready to believe in ghosts just because someone had a strange experience. I'm hoping to learn more about paranormal research as an actual discipline, and maybe share some thoughts on how to approach these things scientifically.

Any other science-minded folk here? Or am I going to get run out of town? 😄

Welcome! You'll fit right in, honestly. There's a good mix of believers and sceptics here, and most of us respect both viewpoints as long as you're not a complete git about it. Your science background could be really useful - we need more rigorous thinking. Check out the 'Methodology & Research' section if you get a chance.

Environmental science is interesting because you probably understand EM fields and atmospheric effects better than most, yeah? That could be handy for explaining some 'paranormal' stuff that's actually just weird physics. Anyway, don't worry about fitting in - we've got everything from proper UFOlogists to geology enthusiasts here.

Fellow scientist here too (physicist, actually). The paranormal community needs sceptics - keeps us honest. I've found some genuinely interesting phenomena that resist conventional explanation, and I've also debunked a lot of nonsense. It's all good. Stick around and contribute where you feel confident.

That's the right attitude. There's a difference between healthy scepticism and dismissiveness. We value both perspectives. Welcome to Quirk Reports!
