Hi all, Sarah here from Leeds. I found this forum through Reddit and thought I'd join because I've always been interested in paranormal stuff from a "probably explainable" angle, if that makes sense? My mates think I'm mad for even exploring this, but there's a difference between thinking Bigfoot is probably a bear and thinking every paranormal report is immediately debunked.

I'm a biologist by training, so I do like evidence and the scientific method, but I'm also aware that absence of evidence isn't evidence of absence, etc. Hoping to have some good conversations with people who don't immediately go to either "it's all aliens" or "it's all bollocks." Any recommendations for beginner-friendly threads to start with?

ModeratorJohn: Welcome, Sarah! Your approach is exactly what we need more of on here. Check out the "Cryptozoology General" forum for some balanced discussions - we've got some proper researchers alongside the enthusiasts. Avoid the deep end of "Government Cover-Ups" until you've got your sea legs, it gets a bit... passionate. Good to have you aboard!

LocalLegendHunter: Biologist, nice. That's genuinely useful perspective. A lot of the cryptid reports from Yorkshire and Lancashire could use someone who actually understands animal biology rather than just "big hairy thing scary." Stick around, we need more rational voices.

ConspiracyCarl: Welcome! Fair warning though - once you start looking into this stuff, the "probably explainable" stuff starts feeling thin. The governments of the world don't spend billions keeping secrets about nothing. But yeah, healthy skepticism is good. Just don't be too skeptical or you'll miss the real patterns.
