Hi everyone! I'm Sarah, 34, from Bodmin (yes, that Bodmin). Just signed up after watching the recent Channel 5 documentary about the Bodmin Beast. Fair point - I've lived here my whole life and never seen anything unusual, but the documentary got me thinking about all the stories I've heard down the pub that I'd never really considered seriously.

I'm not a full believer in cryptids or anything, but there's something about living in a place with actual folklore and then hearing other locals casually mention sightings... it makes you wonder if there's maybe something to it?

Anyway, I'm here to learn more and maybe share some local knowledge if anyone's interested. I've got mates who've had weird experiences and I'd like to understand what might actually be going on rather than just dismissing it all as nonsense.

Looking forward to chatting with you all!

Welcome, Sarah! Bodmin is basically cryptid central in the UK. You're in the right place. The Bodmin Beast has been reported on and off since the 1980s and locals tend to have much more credible accounts than outsiders looking for attention. Since you're actually there, you're probably in a brilliant position to investigate if you ever come across anything. Have your mates mentioned specific locations or times of year?

The documentary was quite good actually - better than I expected from Channel 5. They interviewed some proper locals rather than just conspiracy YouTubers. Your area's got brilliant history for this sort of thing. Bodmin Moor is massive and isolated enough that an unknown animal could theoretically exist there without being regularly spotted.

Just a heads up - this community has a mix of believers and hardcore skeptics, but everyone's generally respectful. You'll find people arguing about evidence and methodology a lot, which can be annoying but keeps things honest. Looking forward to hearing what you and your mates have to say about local sightings!

Brilliant to have someone with actual local knowledge on the forum! One quick tip: if you do decide to investigate or ask around, maybe get proper permission before going onto private land. A lot of Bodmin's got farming and private estates. Don't want you getting into legal trouble for trespassing while trying to spot big cats 😄
