Hi everyone, just joined up after lurking for a few months. I'm Sarah, 34, originally from London but moved to Cornwall five years ago to escape the rat race and because my family has a weird history with unexplained stuff.

My nan used to tell stories about seeing lights in the sky above Bodmin Moor in the 1960s, which I always dismissed as her being eccentric. Then about eighteen months ago, I had my own experience while hiking near Rough Tor (this was October, so lovely autumn light). Saw something that moved in a way conventional aircraft don't move - sharp angles, no sound, just... wrong.

I'm not here claiming I saw aliens or anything dramatic. Just something genuinely unusual that I can't explain. I'd like to chat with people who've had similar experiences in the Southwest, and maybe learn more about what's actually been documented in this area historically. I'm also keen to learn ghost hunting techniques if I'm being honest - there's a lot of paranormal activity reported near my cottage and I'd like to investigate properly rather than just getting spooked.

Looking forward to chatting with you all. Please be gentle, I'm new to all this! 😊

Welcome aboard Sarah! Bodmin Moor's a brilliant hotspot for activity - you've picked the right area to live if you're interested in the paranormal. There's been documented sightings going back centuries. For beginner ghost hunting, I'd recommend starting with basic techniques like EMF meter sweeps and audio recording before investing in expensive kit. Loads of guides in the Ghost Hunting Techniques forum.

Welcome! Your nan's stories about Bodmin lights aren't unusual at all - there's a genuinely solid history of unusual aerial phenomena in that region. Have you looked into the Bodmin Lights specifically? Documented sightings stretching back to the Victorian era. Your experience fits a documented pattern, which is reassuring.

Great to have another Cornish member! If you ever fancy teaming up for investigations around Rough Tor area, I'm always keen. Winter's actually the best season for ghost hunting - activity tends to be higher when the nights are longest and the temperatures drop. The cold seems to provide energy that entities can manipulate.

This is exactly the right attitude. Loads of people come here claiming absolute certainty about what they saw, but the honest "I don't know what this was" posts are usually the most interesting ones. Keen to hear more about your experience when you're ready to share details.

Sarah welcome! Quick word of caution though - Bodmin's got some genuinely creepy spots that attract the wrong kind of attention if you catch my drift. Do your investigations in groups when you can, and maybe avoid some of the deeper moor areas at night until you've got more experience. There's activity out there that's less "ghostly" and more... something else. Stay safe.

@CallumJones the Bodmin Moor time slip cases are absolutely fascinating - there are reports from that area that'd make your hair stand on end even on a warm Tuesday afternoon.

Moved from London to Norfolk myself (obviously not as dramatic as Cornwall but we've got our own oddities), so I completely understand the pull of somewhere with proper history baked into the landscape.

Keep a detailed log of everything you experience out there - dates, times, weather conditions, the lot. The difference between a good case and a great case is almost always in the notes nobody bothered to take at the time.
