Right, I'll do the proper intro thing: I'm Sarah, 34, from Bristol, and I've just joined because I genuinely don't know where else to talk about this stuff without sounding absolutely barking mad.

For about fifteen years I was the sort of person who'd roll my eyes at paranormal forums, tell friends they were being silly when they mentioned ghosts, all that. I was solidly sceptical. But six months ago I had an experience I genuinely cannot explain, and now I'm stuck in this weird position where I can't quite go back to being dismissive but I also feel like I've stumbled into something I don't really understand.

Rather than dumping the whole story here, I thought I'd lurk for a bit, read some of your investigations and discussions, see if any of it rings true. I'm particularly interested in people who've had genuine experiences without being fully committed paranormal investigators - is that a thing? Am I in the right place?

Looking forward to chatting with you all. And apologies in advance if I ask daft questions - still learning the language here.

Welcome! You're absolutely in the right place and genuinely, one of your biggest advantages is coming to this with scepticism. So many new members buy into everything immediately and it clouds their thinking. The fact you arrived here reluctantly means you'll probably ask better questions than most of us.

You're not alone at all - there's loads of us who stumbled into this because of personal experience rather than lifelong belief. I'd say maybe 40% of this community got here the same way. The lurking strategy is sound. Get a feel for the forums, see what resonates, work out where to ask questions without attracting the "it's obviously a ghost, contact a medium immediately" crowd.

Brilliant to have sceptics onboard - keeps us honest. Fair warning though: once you've had a genuine experience, it's weird because you can't fully go back to scepticism but you also can't commit fully to belief. You'll live in this annoying middle ground for a bit. Most of us eventually make peace with it and just kind of... investigate? Rather than believing or disbelieving.

If you want to share your experience sometime, we're all ears. No judgment. Even if it sounds weird. Especially if it sounds weird. Some of the best investigative threads start with someone saying "this happened and I can't explain it" and then the group helps pull apart what might've occurred.
