That dog behaviour would have me on edge straight away. Animals pick up on things we can't and when they refuse to go somewhere they normally would, that means something.
Did it sound like it was moving in a pattern or more random? I've read a few accounts where people describe roof sounds and it turns out they're on or near a ley line. Not saying thats definitely what's going on but it's worth checking, there are free maps online where you can plot your postcode.
Also curious whether you felt anything yourself - sometimes people report a kind of heavy atmosphere or pressure in the house before and after these incidents. Did you notice anything like that or was it just the sound and then the dogs acting up this morning?
