That dog behaviour is the bit that gets me. Animals don't react to nothing, full stop. My old spaniel used to go absolutely rigid at certain spots around the Tor and I never once dismissed it.
The roof thing is interesting - was it rhythmic like footsteps or more random? Because I've read accounts where people describe something that moves in a very deliberate pattern, not like a fox or a bird at all. Foxes are clumsy and loud in a chaotic way, this sounds different from what you're describing.
What part of the country are you in? That might help narrow things down a bit. Some areas have a much higher frequency of this type of report and it would be worth cross referencing with local sightings if you're somewhere with a history of strangeness. Keep a note of the date and time as well, seriously worth documenting even the small details while its fresh in your memory.
