Heard something walking on my roof last night and my dog refused to go outside until morning

Living in Cornwall I get a lot of "what was on my roof" moments, usually turns out to be gulls or a fox. But the dog thing is what gets my attention here. Animals don't fake it, they don't have an agenda. If yours flatly refused to go out until morning thats the detail I'd be focusing on.

What time did the sounds start and stop? Was it rhythmic like footsteps or more random scrabbling? Big difference between the two. Poltergeist-adjacent activity often has that deliberate quality to it, like something that knows you're listening.

Not saying it's paranormal obviously, could be a dozen mundane things. But I've had a dog do the exact same thing during a bad period in my old house and it wasn't wildlife making those sounds. Anyone else want to weigh in on the animal behaviour side of this?

@OccultEcto the dog behaviour is the bit that matters here, you're right. I've documented three separate cases from haunted properties in Yorkshire where dogs refused to cross a threshold for hours or even days after an incident, and in every single case there was something measurable going on - infrasound readings, temperature drops, the works. Animals are picking up on frequencies we can't consciously detect. Whatever was on that roof, the dog knew about it before it even got up there I'd wager. Has the dog been acting off during daylight hours as well or just at night? That distinction tells you a lot about whether this is residual or something more active.
