Right so this gave me proper chills because my nan's dog did the exact same thing a few years back in Lancashire. Wouldn't go past the back door for nearly a whole day. Animals just KNOW when something's off, they pick up on things we can't.
The roof thing is interesting though. What did it sound like, was it heavy like something large, or more like lots of smaller footsteps? Because I've read a fair few reports where people describe this kind of thing before a black-eyed children sighting in the area. Not saying that's what it is but its worth considering.
Did you manage to get any recordings? Even just on your mobile if you hear it again. I do EVP work and honestly some of the best captures I've gotten were completely accidental, just phone left on voice memo.
What part of the country are you in as well, that might help narrow things down if anyone else in the area has had similar.
