That dog behaviour is the detail that stands out to me. Animals - particularly dogs - are often the most reliable early indicators we have that something unusual is present. The refusal to go outside until morning suggests whatever it was had either physically left or the atmosphere had changed in some way the dog could sense.
Worth keeping a log if this continues. Note the time, weather conditions, temperature, whether there'd been any unusual activity in the house in the days before. Poltergeist-adjacent disturbances often come in clusters before they escalate or simply stop. The roof element is interesting too because a lot of reported cases involve sounds that appear to originate from above or outside rather than within teh immediate living space.
Not saying thats definitley what this is - could be an animal, could be something settling in the cold. But the dog reaction pushes it into "worth paying attention to" territory for me. Has anything else felt off in the house recently, even small things you'd normally dismiss?
