Yeah this has genuinely been bugging me for a while. There's a definite pattern when you start mapping the reported encounters - a lot of them cluster along old disused rail routes and I don't think that's a coincidence.
My theory is that the old rail corridors basically became long strips of undisturbed woodland once the lines closed, so whatever these things are they've got natural travel routes that humans mostly ignore. Like hidden highways through the landscape.
Scotland doesn't get many Dogman reports but we've got plenty of old Highland railway lines that were shut down decades ago and I'd love to know if anyone's ever looked into sightings along those routes specifically.
Has anyone actually tried overlaying sighting maps with historical railroad data? Feels like someone must have done this but I've never seen it written up properly. Would be well worth doing if not.
