Never been to Ohio myself - bit far from Norfolk! - but I've been following reports from that area with some interest. The institutional abandonment category tends to produce some of the most compelling EVP results I've seen documented online, and Briarwood specifically has come up a few times in the American forums I lurk on.
From what I've gathered, the east wing is supposedly the most active area. Something about the former treatment rooms generating residual energy, if you subscribe to that theory. A few investigators have reported shadow movement in doorways and some genuinely unsettling Class B EVPs near what was apparently the hydrotherapy suite.
For those who have visited - a few questions:
What recording equipment did you use? I run a Zoom H5 for most of my EVP work, curious whether directional mics made any difference there, Any photography anomalies? Mist, orbs, figures in windows?, Were the black-eyed children reports from the surrounding area ever connected to the site itself, or just the local roads nearby?
That last point particularly interests me. I've been cataloguing BEK sightings across institutional locations for a while now, and there does seem to be a loose pattern worth examining properly.
Would love to hear from anyone with direct experience. Even negative investigations are worth documenting - a clean sweep tells us something useful too.
