Has anyone actually seen the Yorkshire Moorland Creature? Summer solstice sightings cluster?

Been researching sightings around the Yorkshire Moors and notice something odd: there are clusters of "large unidentified animal" reports that seem to peak around the summer solstice period (June 19-21) and then again during the autumn equinox. I'm not talking about misidentified sheep or deer - I mean reports of something genuinely large, black or dark brown, moving with unusual gait or speed.

The earliest report I found was June 1987 (a hiker near Haworth saw what they described as "something like a big cat, but wrong somehow"). Most recent cluster was summer 2019 with three separate reports within two weeks. Local farmers have mentioned losing livestock during these periods, though they usually blame foxes.

Is there any documented pattern here, or am I pattern-matching where there isn't one? Cryptid enthusiasts might have better resources than I do. Would love to compile a proper database if others have sightings to contribute.

The summer solstice clustering is interesting but could be selection bias - more people are outdoors during longer daylight hours, so naturally you'd expect more sightings. Equinox clustering is harder to explain away though. Autumn equinox (September) sees fewer hikers but same number of reports. That's the real anomaly.

My grandfather claimed he saw something in the Ilkley Moor area around 1952, during summer. He described it as "something between a large dog and something else entirely." He wasn't prone to exaggeration and was a sensible bloke. Always wondered if his account fit into a larger pattern. Would definitely contribute to a database if you're serious about compiling one.

Honest answer: probably both. But the equinox correlation you mentioned is real enough to warrant investigation. The question is whether it's something about the astronomical event itself (which I'm sceptical about) or whether it's about human behaviour and opportunity. Either way, worth documenting systematically.

Been following these reports for years. Most likely explanations: escaped big cats (illegal private ownership), misidentified domestic animals, or genuine unknown species. The solstice timing makes for good storytelling but I'd want to see hard data before accepting it as significant. Still, I'm interested in your database project - count me in.
