Has anyone actually investigated the London Underground tunnels? (The closed sections)

So I've been reading about the abandoned tube stations and closed tunnel sections under London - places like Aldwych, Down Street, the old King William Street station, etc. - and apparently some of them have proper paranormal histories attached.

I'm curious whether anyone on here has actually managed to get access and done an investigation. I know it's technically not permitted and the risks are real (collapsed infrastructure, asbestos, electrical hazards, the lot), but I'm fascinated by what's supposedly been reported down there.

From what I've read, there are stories of phantom trains, unexplained sounds, apparitions of Blitz victims, that sort of thing. Some of it's probably bollocks, but the sheer age and history of those tunnels suggests something interesting might be worth investigating.

Is anyone connected to this or know someone who is? I'm not looking to break the law, but I'd be interested to hear stories or advice on how people have approached this safely and legally.

There are actually some legitimate tours you can book that include some of the closed stations. Not all of them, but places like Aldwych do tours a few times a year. They're expensive but legal and you're not going to collapse into a void or get nicked. Might be worth looking into that rather than trespassing.

I did Aldwych a few years back and it was genuinely eerie, but no paranormal activity. Just very old, very quiet, very atmospheric. The history is incredible though - you can see where the ticket offices were, old adverts on the walls. If you're into that sort of thing, it's worth it just for the experience.

I know someone who knows someone who got into the tunnels unofficially and they said the vibe was seriously unsettling. Unexplained cold spots, sounds of movement when nobody else was there. But obviously I can't say more than that because... well, yeah.

Aldwych and Down Street definitely have stories attached to them from the war years. But honestly, a lot of that paranormal stuff is probably just people getting spooked by an old creepy building and their imagination running wild. Still worth visiting though, even just to see the history.

Book the legitimate tour. You get the atmosphere and the history without the risk of being arrested or dying in a tunnel. Win-win.
