Encountered something on the A66 near Penrith - still can't explain it

Right, I've been reading this forum for ages but never posted. Tonight's the night because I genuinely need some perspective on what happened to me last month.

I was driving back from visiting my folks in Carlisle around 11:30 PM on the 14th of November. Clear night, good visibility, practically no other traffic. Just after Penrith, near the bypass, I saw what I can only describe as a massive dark shape move across the road ahead. Not a lorry, not a car - something tall that seemed to glide rather than walk. My headlights caught it for maybe three seconds, and I swear it had no distinct head or limbs, just... bulk.

I slammed on the brakes. My mate Sarah was asleep in the passenger seat and woke up shouting. By the time she looked, there was nothing there. No sound, no lights, nothing. The road was empty. I checked my dashcam footage when I got home and there's a weird fuzzy patch right where I saw it. Has anyone experienced something similar on the motorways? I'm not mad, I promise.

Could've been a deer, mate. They're massive up that way and move quick. The fuzziness on the dashcam is probably just low light and compression artefacts.

The A66 has weird reputation among lorry drivers apparently. I work for Tesco logistics and the lads talk about strange happenings near Penrith all the time. Not just shadows either - full-on mechanical failures. One bloke claimed his lights went out completely for a mile stretch. Probably nothing but curious you mention it.

Nah, OP's description sounds nothing like a deer. The 'gliding' motion and the height don't match. Sounds more like what people report near Bodmin Moor or up in the Highlands. Cryptid activity tends to cluster near major routes. Worth investigating further imo.

Upload the dashcam footage to the site! We have some members who are brilliant with image analysis. If there's genuinely something unusual there, they'll spot it. Don't worry about sounding daft - we've all been there.
