Right, I've been mucking about with various EMF meters ahead of the winter investigation season, and I've found some genuinely useful options that won't completely bankrupt you.

The budget option: Meterk digital EMF meter (£25-35 on Amazon). It's basic as anything, but it actually works. I've tested it against a properly calibrated meter and the variance is minimal. Main downside is it's not programmable and it doesn't record data - you have to manually note readings.

The mid-range goldilocks: Lutron EMF-828 (around £60-80). This is where I'd recommend starting if you're serious about investigations. Dual-axis measurement, decent battery life, records peaks. I've been using one for eight months and it's been solid.

The 'maybe if you've got the budget': Trifield TF2 (£200+). Professional grade, brilliant accuracy, but honestly? For most paranormal investigations you don't need this level of precision. It's overkill.

Important caveat: EMF readings can spike from normal electrical sources - power lines, mobile phone masts, your own sodding mobile phone. You need to take baseline readings before you start investigating. This is crucial. Too many people see a spike and assume it's paranormal when it's just someone's iPhone.

Anyone else got recommendations or experience with other models?

The Meterk is genuinely great value. I've got three of them and use them for group investigations so everyone's got their own readings. For the price, you can't complain.

This is the entire paranormal investigation community in one sentence. So many false positives because people don't understand electromagnetic basics.

I'd add to this: definitely calibrate your meters beforehand. Even cheap ones can drift, and if you're comparing readings across multiple investigations you want consistency. Takes about twenty minutes and makes a difference.

The Lutron is the sweet spot honestly. Not too expensive, reliable, and the data recording is genuinely useful. Better than the Meterk for documentation purposes.

Question: do any of these have bluetooth connectivity? Trying to find something that'll log data automatically to my mobile without needing manual notes.
