Edinburgh's haunted vaults—worth a proper investigation?

Planning a paranormal research trip to Scotland next spring, and Edinburgh's South Bridge vaults keep coming up in recommendations. The history is genuinely grim - plague victims, executions, poverty, crime, bodies in mass graves. The setup is there for haunting.

Question: has anyone here done serious paranormal investigation in the vaults, or is it mostly a tourist trap with scripted 'ghost tour' nonsense? I'm willing to pay for access to actually conduct an investigation, but I want proper conditions and not just 'walk around in the dark while someone tells spooky stories.'

The public ghost tours are tourist entertainment. For actual investigation, you need to book private access with a group that understands paranormal research - most of the Edinburgh tour companies are flexible if you ask. That said, the vaults are genuinely atmospheric. Even without ghosts, they're worth experiencing.

I did a proper investigation there in 2017 with a Scottish paranormal group. Got some interesting EVP recordings, significant temperature drops in specific chambers, and genuinely unsettling atmosphere. Whether it's haunting or just the power of suggestion + grim history, hard to say. But something felt *off* down there.

This is your limiting factor. Most commercial access comes with a guide who won't let you do proper baseline readings or EVP sessions. Contact the Spiritual Quest group or Edinburgh Paranormal directly - they run legitimate investigations.

The vaults are cool but overhyped. You want proper hauntings? Go to Greyfriars Kirkyard (free access, genuinely creepy) or Culloden Battlefield. More history, fewer tourists, better atmosphere for investigations.

The vaults are worth it for the historical experience alone. As for paranormal activity - honestly, anywhere with that much death and suffering is going to *feel* haunted, which is 90% of the paranormal experience anyway.
