Downtime scheduled for this weekend – site migration to new servers

Fair enough, just hope it doesnt drag on all weekend. Last time a site I used did a "scheduled migration" it was down for like five days and half the old threads came back scrambled or just gone entirely.

Mods - can you confirm whether archived threads from before 2019 are definitely being preserved? There's some genuinely useful stuff buried in the old crop circle reports section and I'd hate to lose access to it. Some of those witness accounts took years to accumulate.

Also if anyones got links to anything important, probably worth saving them locally before Saturday just in case. Don't rely on the site being back up when they say it will.

@TotallyWendigo yeah that five-day thing happens more than admins ever admit up front. The scrambled threads are usually a database encoding issue - UTF-8 vs older character sets not playing nice during the dump and restore. Hopefully whoever's handling this has done a dry run first and has a verified backup they can actually roll back to if it goes sideways. Main thing I'd say is screenshot or copy any threads you really care about before the window starts, just in case. Lost a few good poltergeist case discussions on another forum years back because nobody thought to do that and the admin just shrugged afterwards.
