Did the Nazca lines actually serve as landing strips or is that theory completely dead now?

Pretty sure the landing strip theory got laughed out of serious discussion years ago but I still find it interesting that nobody's fully agreed on what they actually were. The soil's too soft for any kind of aircraft anyway, that always gets me.

What I keep coming back to is the sheer scale of them - you can only really see the shapes properly from the air, which is dead strange when the people making them obviously couldn't fly. Some researchers reckon they were ritual walking paths or astronomical markers and honestly that feels more believable to me than ancient aliens with runways.

Anyone here got thoughts on the water ritual angle? I've read a bit about that theory and it seems quite compelling but I'm no expert, still fairly new to all this. Would love to know what the more experienced lot on here think.
