The landing strip theory's pretty much been dead for decades among serious researchers, hasn't it. The ground's too soft, the lines too narrow, and honestly the whole thing was always more about von Däniken wanting it to be true than any actual evidence.
That said I do find myself wondering why nobody talks much anymore about the water/ritual procession angle. Maria Reiche spent decades mapping those things and her work still holds up better than most. The fact that some lines point toward underground water sources is far more interesting to me than alien runways.
What I'd actually like to know is whether anyone's done proper ground-penetrating radar work across the plateau. You'd think by now someone would have. Has anyone seen recent papers on that? The archaeological work there seems to move incredibly slowly for such a high-profile site and I genuinely can't tell if that's funding or politics or both.
