Did the Nazca Lines actually function as some kind of landing calendar for seasonal events?

Right so I went down a proper rabbit hole on this last night and the astronomical alignment theory genuinely makes more sense to me than the "landing strips" stuff, like the lines point toward solstice sunrises and the trapezoids might map seasonal water sources which for a desert people is basically life or death information. The "calendar" interpretation feels more grounded than aliens but then again why make them so massive you can only read them from the air, that bit still bugs me. Some researchers reckon the act of walking the lines was itself a ritual tied to the calendar cycle which is an interesting middle ground. Anyone else looked into the work Anthony Aveni did on this, he mapped loads of the alignments properly and its fascinating even if a bit dry. Would love to know what this community thinks about whether it was purely functional or had a ceremonial layer on top.

The landing strip thing always felt off to me because why would aliens need a visual marker from the ground level? You'd see them from the air anyway. The calendar theory is way more compelling - there's something about the spider figure apparently aligning with Orion that I keep coming back to. Would love to know more about what you found @WiltshireHeron, did it cover the trapezoid shapes at all or just the animal geoglyphs?
