Staffordshire lad here so not a million miles from you. We get sightings around Cannock Chase pretty regularly and honestly at this point I'd be more surprised if there wasn't something out there. Too many credible witnesses over too many years to just write it off as misidentified moggies.
What size are we talking? Bigger than a labrador? That's usually the threshold where people stop saying "oh it was just a big domestic." Also what time of day, because low light plays tricks but it also happens to be when these things are most active so its kind of a double edged thing.
I had something cross the road in front of my car near Rugeley about four years back. Big, black, low slung gait. Gone into the treeline before I even had chance to stop. Never reported it because honestly whats the point, nobody official takes it seriously anyway.
