Dark nights and spirit activity – does winter increase paranormal communication?

I've been working with EVP recording for about three years now, mostly doing sessions in my basement with a digital recorder and some basic audio gear (£80 Zoom H1 from Amazon, nothing fancy). My success rate is honestly pretty variable - some sessions are dead quiet, others I pick up what sound like genuine voices saying actual words.

Here's my observation: I've noticed significantly more clear EVP during the winter months (November through January) compared to summer. The dark nights particularly seem to correlate with stronger signal. My theory is that the darker, colder season creates different electromagnetic or psychic conditions that make communication easier.

Has anyone else noticed this seasonal pattern? I'm wondering if it's genuinely a thing or if I'm just being more attentive/patient during longer winter nights. I've got recordings if anyone wants to help me analyse them - some are genuinely creepy.

Interesting observation. There's definitely folklore suggesting dead spirits are more active in winter (Celtic Samhain through Imbolc period, dark half of the year). Whether that reflects actual increased paranormal activity or just increased human attention to paranormal stuff during winter is the question. How many sessions have you actually done in each season? Need a decent sample size.

I'd be cautious with EVP analysis, mate. The human brain is exceptionally good at finding patterns in noise - it's called pareidolia. White noise in particular tends to sound like words if you listen long enough expecting words. Do you have anyone else listen to your recordings blind (without knowing what you think they say) to confirm the voices? That's the basic control test.

Could also be atmospheric - winter weather systems change electromagnetic activity in the atmosphere. Lower pressure systems, higher humidity, more electrical activity in the air. If spirits or entities communicate via EM fields, then yes, winter might be more conducive. But also, it could just be more ambient electromagnetic noise creating more patterns for your brain to interpret.

I'd love to hear some of your recordings, genuinely. Post them on the thread or DM me? I've done mediumship work for 20 years and I'm familiar with what genuine EVP sounds like versus pareidolia. The winter timing thing is definitely noted in paranormal circles - it's called 'the darker season' in some traditions for a reason. Not all superstition.

One technical suggestion: temperature fluctuations can affect electronic equipment's performance. Winter cold might be making your recording device more or less sensitive depending on the model. Could be worth documenting ambient temperature during each session and seeing if that correlates with signal clarity, independent of season.
