Curious about the pattern in Ministry of Defence UFO files - release dates seem... strategic?

I've been going through the MoD's publicly released UFO files (they're all on the National Archives website) and I noticed something odd about the release schedule. Major political events or security incidents - there's usually a batch of UFO files released shortly before or after. I'm wondering if this is just coincidence or if there's actual deliberate misdirection happening.

For example, a large batch dropped in 2008 right during the banking crisis. Another batch in 2013 when there was major debate about Syria intervention. I've charted it out and the pattern is... suspicious? Or am I being paranoid? Figured someone here might have noticed the same thing.

Thoughts? Is this documented anywhere or am I just seeing patterns that aren't there?

You're definitely onto something, though the explanation might be more boring than you'd hope. Government FOIA teams work on scheduled release windows - they batch process requests roughly quarterly or bi-annually. So the 'strategic timing' might just be that three requests got approved around the same time, independent of external events. Doesn't make for a good conspiracy though.

That said, I've noticed the same pattern and I think there's more to it than coincidence. Why would they choose to release UFO files at ALL if not for some strategic purpose? They're not legally obligated to make them public - those requests could be denied. The fact they sometimes approve them suggests someone higher up decided 'let's release some UFO stuff' at specific moments. But proving the intentionality is nearly impossible.

You'd be amazed how many people have studied this exact question. There's a YouTube channel (won't name it, bit conspiratorial even for me) that tracked this for three years. Their conclusion was basically 'probably coincidence, but impossible to prove.' Not satisfying I know, but that's the truth of document analysis - without internal memos explicitly saying 'release UFO stuff to distract from X,' you're just connecting dots.

I think the more interesting angle is: *why is the MoD releasing any of this stuff at all*? These are genuine reports from military personnel, documented incidents. The fact they're being declassified suggests they genuinely don't consider the content a security threat anymore - which actually supports the prosaic explanation rather than cover-up. If it was really important to keep secret, they wouldn't release it at all.
