So Borley Rectory is officially one of the most documented haunted locations in Britain, but visiting in winter is a completely different experience from summer. I went out there last February (the 14th, which felt thematically appropriate given the romantic tragedies associated with the location) and the activity level was noticeably higher than my summer visit.
For those unfamiliar, Borley's in Essex near Long Melford, and the original rectory was destroyed by fire in 1939. There are ruins still visible on the site, and the energy there in winter is genuinely oppressive. February conditions were fog, frost, and temperatures around 2°C. Perfect conditions for paranormal activity apparently - the cold seems to facilitate manifestations.
I recorded several EVP sessions and captured what might be thermal anomalies on my infrared camera. Nothing conclusive, but enough to justify a return visit when spring equinox comes around. I'm thinking about organizing a group investigation in late March - would anyone be interested in a properly structured overnight visit? Happy to share my previous findings and coordinate equipment.
