Borley Rectory - has anyone visited the site recently?

I'm planning a little day trip to Essex next month and was thinking about visiting the site where Borley Rectory used to stand. For those who don't know, it was probably the most famous haunted location in Britain - built in 1862, demolished in 1944 after years of absolutely bonkers paranormal activity. Poltergeists, apparitions, mysterious fires, the whole lot.

The actual rectory's gone now, but the site is still there near Sudbury. I was wondering if anyone's been recently and can give me some intel? Is it worth visiting, or is it just an empty field? I'm bringing my mate who's a complete skeptic, so if nothing happens that's alright, but I'd like to know what to expect. Are there any particular times that are better to visit? Any equipment I should bring?

Cheers in advance!

Went last autumn, absolute disappointment honestly. It's just a field with some brick rubble and an information board. No weird sensations, no cold spots, nothing. The current landowners are pretty protective of it, so you can't just wander about. That said, the atmosphere is definitely different than other fields - hard to describe. Might be placebo but worth a visit if you're in the area anyway.

The thing about Borley is that most of the 'evidence' was actually quite dodgy. Harry Price (the famous ghost hunter) has been accused of faking phenomena. Worth reading the debunking literature before you go - it's a good reminder that even famous hauntings can be bollocks. That said, the history is fascinating regardless.

I visited in 2019 and had the oddest experience - nothing dramatic, just an overwhelming sense of sadness when I was standing where the main building used to be. Could be suggestion, could be real. Brought an EMF metre (basic one from Amazon, about £20) and got some readings but nothing conclusive. The local pub in the village is worth a visit though, lovely old place.

Fair warning: if you're planning to do serious ghost hunting, you'll need permission from the landowner. Can't just rock up with equipment. I'd suggest contacting the Society for Psychical Research first - they've got loads of Borley information and might point you toward better locations in Essex that are actually accessible.
