Borley Rectory—has anyone visited the actual site recently?

Borley Rectory is obviously the most famous "haunted house" in British paranormal history, but I realised I've never actually seen recent reports of people visiting the site. The original building burned down in 1939, but the grounds are still accessible, aren't they?

I'm planning a trip to Essex in January and was thinking of heading out to Borley to see what's what. But I'm trying to work out: is there anything still there? Are there any recent sightings or activity reported? Is it worth the journey or is it basically just an empty field now?

Also, has anyone had a bad experience there? I've read the historical stuff but I'm more curious about what's happening now. The paranormal activity doesn't necessarily stop just because the building burns down, does it?

I visited about four years ago. The site itself is pretty unremarkable visually - mostly just trees and undergrowth - but there's definitely something there. The air feels heavier, if that makes sense? Temperature dropped about 5 degrees just standing in the middle of the property. It was deeply uncomfortable but not malevolent exactly. More like... presence.

The Borley Rectory story has been partially debunked by modern researchers - a lot of the "phenomena" was exaggerated or misreported. Harry Price's investigation was genuinely dodgy by modern standards. That said, people do report activity there, so either something's genuinely there or it's mass psychological influence. Probably worth visiting with a healthy dose of scepticism.

Absolutely it doesn't. The location itself might be the issue - the land, the history, whatever - not the building. Activity at haunted locations often increases after the structure's gone, actually. Fewer barriers or something. January would be a good time to visit, less tourists.

You'll want to be respectful if you go. It's private property technically, and landowners don't always appreciate paranormal investigators tramping about. But if you're just walking nearby and having a look, most people don't mind. Bring a torch (UK will be dark by 5 PM in January) and a charged mobile. And wear proper waterproofs - Essex fields in January are absolutely sodden.

Let us know if you go! Would love to hear recent observations from the site. The historical stuff is fascinating but contemporary reports are what actually matter.
