Borley Rectory: has anyone actually visited the site recently?

I know Borley Rectory burnt down in 1939 and there's basically nothing left, but I'm curious if anyone on here has actually been to the site in Essex to see what's there now. I'm planning a paranormal weekend trip with a couple of mates and we're thinking of making it part of the itinerary, but I want to know if it's worth the petrol.

From what I've read, it's supposedly the most haunted house in England, but there's also a lot of debate about whether the original investigations by Harry Price were conducted properly or if he was a bit of a charlatan embellishing everything. Either way, the atmosphere of a place can linger, right? Even if the building's gone?

Has anyone felt anything unusual there? Are the current owners hostile to visitors? Is it just a field with some rubble? Any tips would be appreciated.

I went in 2015. Honestly, it's just a private garden now with some brick foundations visible. The current owners are pretty decent if you ask nicely - I rang ahead and they let me have a brief look from the gate. I didn't sense anything particular, but the whole area does feel a bit heavy, if that makes sense? Could be psychological though. The village itself is quite nice. Not worth a special trip on its own, but fine if you're in Essex doing other stuff.

Harry Price was absolutely embellishing things. He had a reputation to build and was selling books. A lot of his "evidence" has been debunked by proper researchers. That said, there's definitely something to the legend and the energy of the place. I'd recommend combining it with Pendle Hill and Pendle Witchcraft Museum if you want a proper paranormal Essex/Lancashire combo trip.

Don't bother, honestly. It's a disappointment. But if you're going to Essex, Colchester has some genuinely haunted spots - the Mercury Theatre, the castle, various pubs. Southend Pier has got some odd vibes too. Much better use of your time. Borley's only famous because Price was brilliant at marketing himself.

I actually live about five miles from Borley. The site is private property and the owners now are NOT friendly to paranormal tourists. They've got signs up and have called the police on groups before. Unless you know someone with a connection, I'd skip it and check out the museum in the village instead - they've got original photos and documentation from the investigations. It's small but interesting.
