OK so I'm heading down to Cornwall next week and obviously Bodmin Moor is calling to me, but I'm struggling to find reliable intel on where to actually go. There's loads of folklore - the Beast, various phantom sightings, strange lights - but most online guides are just pointing tourists at carparks and gift shops.

I've got four evenings free and decent equipment. Would appreciate recommendations from anyone who's actually done serious investigation work out there, not just visited for the atmosphere. Which locations have the most documented activity? What's the best approach logistically?

Also, does anyone know the current access situation? I know there was some controversy about night investigations a few years back.

Bodmin's a bit tricky because most of the serious paranormal activity claims are from the 80s/90s. Current activity is pretty low-key if I'm honest. The Beast reports were mostly debunked wildlife misidentifications. That said, Brown Willy and the area around Rough Tor do have interesting historical vibes - stone circles, ancient settlements, that sort of thing.

Access is fine during daylight. Night investigations are technically allowed on most of the moorland but use common sense - farmers obviously don't want people tramping around their land at 2am. Stick to the public footpaths and established routes. For equipment, bring good thermal because there are actual temperature anomalies recorded in certain spots, though environmental factors are probably the explanation.

The Beast stuff is mostly folklore reinforcement at this point. The phantom sightings are interesting though - there's a concentration around the old mining areas. If I was you, I'd focus on the historical angle rather than chasing cryptids. More productive research-wise.

Jamaica Inn is close by and worth a look if you're in the area - proper paranormal history. The moor itself is beautiful but honestly less 'haunted' than people think. Go for the archaeology and landscape rather than expecting dramatic encounters. That's more honest than hyping it up.
