Right, so I've been using my mate's old FLIR for the last few months and I'm absolutely hooked. Problem is, he wants it back before Christmas and I'm skint. Anyone got recommendations for a decent thermal under £400? I don't need professional-grade, just something that'll pick up temperature anomalies on the moors without breaking the bank.

I'm thinking of hitting Pendle Hill in January and I'd rather not rely on my dodgy smartphone camera this time. Last investigation I got nothing but blurry orbs and what might have been a pigeon.

Cheers in advance!

I'd steer clear of anything under £200 honestly. Spent £150 on one from Amazon in October and the image was so grainy it was useless. Upgraded to a SEEK CompactPRO (around £350) and night and day difference. Still not professional but actually reliable for ghost hunting.

Have you considered borrowing longer? Your mate might be willing to loan it out for specific hunts rather than permanently. Just a thought - saves the expense and you've got time to save up properly.

Mate, this made me laugh out loud. But seriously, orbs are dust particles 9 times out of 10. Get a thermal and you'll cut through that nonsense at least.

CAT S60 smartphone has built-in thermal. Bit pricey upfront (£500+) but if you're into this long-term it pays for itself. Doubles as a regular phone too. I've had mine since summer and it's genuinely brilliant for preliminary surveys.
