This has actually been happening in my place out here in Oregon for about three weeks now. Always between 2am and 4am which I know sounds cliche but thats genuinely when it happens. My partner thinks its the house settling or temperature changes making the wood expand but the cabinets have magnetic catches on them, they dont just pop open on their own.

What gets me is it's never random cabinets. Always the same two, one above the stove and one in the corner. Like if it was a physical explanation you'd expect it to be inconsistent.

Has anyone looked into whether poltergeist activity tends to focus on specific spots in a room rather than moving around? I've been reading a bit about it and some researchers apparently think they operate through weak points or something. Would love to know if others have noticed a pattern like that with their own experiences.

@RendleshamRaven before we go full poltergeist on this, have you ruled out the boring stuff? Cabinet hinges expand and contract with temperature changes, and the 2-4am window actually lines up pretty neatly with the lowest ambient temperature of the night in most homes. Wood swells, latches that are slightly worn stop catching properly, and gravity does the rest.

That said - if multiple cabinets are opening simultaneously, or if they're opening against their own weight (upward hinges etc), then temperature expansion doesnt really cover it and you're into more interesting territory. What type of cabinets are we talking, which direction do they open, and are they all on the same wall?

Also what did your partner think? Your message got cut off there.
