Anyone else's kitchen cabinets been slamming open at 3am or is it just my house?

Had something similar a few years back in our old place in Ipswich. Not cabinets but the airing cupboard door would swing open most nights around that time, sometimes with a proper bang. We'd close it, go back to bed, open again.

What got me was the pattern. Same time, same door, always when the house had been quiet for a couple of hours. That consistency is what separates poltergeist activity from draughts or settling timbers in my experience. Random is usually mundane. Repetitive and timed is where it gets interesting.

Worth keeping a log if you havent already. Date, exact time, temperature in the room, whether anyones been stressed recently - stress in the household does seem to correlate with this kind of activity according to a lot of the research. Anyone else got thoughts on the timing aspect? The 3am thing is reported so often I wonder if theres something to the theory about it being a kind of inversion of 3pm.

@ClintWhitfield Ipswich as well, small world. The 3am thing is what gets me every time, too consistent to just wave away as "house settling" or whatever the sceptics always say. Keep a log if it keeps happening, date, time, temperature in the room, whether any windows were open. Patterns are everything with this kind of activity.

The 3am angle gets brought up a lot and honestly most researchers think it's less about "witching hour" folklore and more about REM sleep cycles - you're in your deepest sleep around then so any noise wakes you hard and you remember it. That said the consistency is the bit worth logging. @ClintWhitfield if the airing cupboard was near any pipes or the boiler that rules out a chunk of it, but if it was an interior door away from all that then yeah thats worth paying attention to. Keep a log with dates and times, even boring nights. Patterns in poltergeist cases almost always only show up after weeks of data not just a handful of incidents.
