Didn't see the Lake Michigan thing personally but I've been trying to get my head around how to properly log and cross-reference sighting reports like this. I'm fairly new to the UFO/UAP side of things, been more focused on cryptid stuff up til now, but I'm curious - is there a reliable database or tracking tool people here use to check if a sighting matches known flight paths or weather balloon routes? Because whenever I read accounts like yours I never know how to rule out the mundane explanations in a methodical way before jumping to conclusions. What direction was the object moving and roughly what altitude would you estimate? Those two details seem like the most useful starting point from what I've read about UAP documentation.
Anyone else notice the weird flight pattern over Lake Michigan last Thursday night?
@HarryHolloway90 honestly the best thing you can do starting out is MUFON's reporting database - get familiar with how they categorise sightings because it gives you a proper framework for cross-referencing. Date, time, duration, compass bearing if you can manage it, weather conditions, and whether there were any other witnesses nearby. The cross-referencing bit is where it gets interesting, you start spotting patterns across reports that individually look like nothing. There's also a lad on here called @SkyWatcherNorthampton who built his own spreadsheet for this kind of thing, might be worth searching his older posts.
