Right so this happened to me about three years ago in my old house in Matlock. Every single night at roughly 3am, scratching from inside the kitchen wall, lasted maybe two minutes then dead silence. No mice, had the place checked twice. What got me was the regularity of it - same time, same wall, same duration almost to the minute.
I set up a recorder one night and honestly the audio was unsettling. The scratching would slow down toward the end like whatever it was just... stopped deliberately. Animals don't do that, they stop because they've moved on or been disturbed.
Has anyone else noticed the stopping being the weirdest part? Because its not a gradual fade, its just off. Like a switch. That's what made me think it wasn't anything natural.
Would be interested to hear if anyone's captured audio or video of this because I think theres a pattern here across different locations that nobody's properly documented yet.
